boston, where no one knows my name

Over the summers of 2006 and 2009 I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Boston with my family and my school choir, respectively. It is such a neat city, so I thought I'd post some pictures of my adventures. :)

In 2006, they had all of these painted cows hanging out around the city. They had all sorts of stuff painted on them--subway maps, quotes from literature, office supplies, Red Sox... there was even a bedazzled cow! This one was by the aquarium.

The hahbuh.

My school choir sang in the courtyard in front of this building (Old City Hall as you can see). All of these people came to see us... They couldn't believe we were a high school choir from the Midwest! There was also a hotel across the street, and the guests even opened their windows so they could hear us or wandered out to see us. It was so cool!

I absolutely loved the brick/cobblestone streets and sidewalks.

We went on a boat tour of the harbor, and there is an airport right off of it, and the boat driver parked the boat so that airplanes flew low over our heads. It was really exciting.

Taken at the Harvard Museum of Natural History.

I screamed when I rounded the corner and came face-to-face with this guy. I thought it was an elephant skeleton at first, but look at those teeth!

things that make me happy

Today was a Bad Day. It put me in one of those Bad Moods.

So I'm going to blog about stuff that makes me happy. Like sunshine and flowers and rainbows and butterflies. But not really.

Topic #1: Friendship bracelets?!

Friendship bracelets are so cool. I love giving them and receiving them because then you can wear them and that says to everyone, "Heyyy, I have friends who are artistically talented, yaaaay."

I'm currently in the middle of a make-friendship-bracelets-until-my-fingers-fall-off phase. I've made quite a few in the past week, probably around three or four, instead of doing homework. (Yay, procrastination!)

And I'm currently working on this one:

Which I thought I was being clever and artsy and chic by using the primary colors in hopes of mimicking those rectangle abstract pictures my class had to paint in art class in second grade:

But it's actually turning out to look like the logo of the local gas station:

I fail at life.

Topic #2: Puppy chow.

Mmmmmm... 'Nuff said.

Topic #3: FLORAL COMBAT BOOTS!!!!!

Go on, children. Bask in its paradoxal glory. I know I am. I MUST HAVE A PAIR!!!

I mean, I love floral prints. But, a floral print on combat boots?!?! Um, can you say EPIC?

I'm asking for some for Christmas, buuuut it's probably not likely. -sigh-

Iiiiin other news, I'm thinking about doing a photoshoot with my friend over Thanksgiving break. I already have some ideas floating around, and I'm itching to get out my camera.

Alas, I have two more days of school until those ideas become reality...

Until then, homework time.

viva la vida

You know how there's always that one band that you go bananas over? That you have set on repeat on your iPod? That you would KILL to see in concert?

Yeah, well mine is Coldplay.

I heard their X&Y album and instantly fell in love. Their music is just so chill yet oddly catchy, and the lyrics are always interesting. Coldplay. is. amazing.

Anyway, I had been bugging my parents for a looong time to take me to a Coldplay concert, so they finally caved and took my family to go see it for my birthday. (Lesson of the day: persistence pays off.)

Well, we got to our amazing seats(by this time I was practically exploding with excitement), and I kid you not, the two TALLEST people I had ever seen in my LIFE sat in the two seats right in front of me. I mean, I'm tall. But these people were ginormous! The guy had to be at least 6'4", and the woman was at least 6'6". Out of ALL of the seats in the entire place, they picked the two right in front of me. I couldn't see anything except the bit of stage between their shoulders.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I wanted to cry. I felt like I was being Punk'd. This was the one thing I had been waiting for a long time, and now I wouldn't even be able to see anything? How was I going to see Chris's angelic face?!

But my dad, being the best dad in the world, offered to switch seats with me (he's not a huge fan, so he didn't particularly care). And everything was bright and sunny and happy again. My parents actually befriended the tall people, who turned out to be really, really nice.

Thus, I was able to take some pictures with my digital camera who loves to avoid focusing at all costs. (click on the pictures to enlarge them)

It rained BUTTERFLIES from the ceiling!!!

Coldplay has a really entertaining show, so if you ever get the chance to see them, take that opportunity! Even if you aren't a big fan. I mean, come on. If swarms of neon butterflies falling from the ceiling, giant spheres with pictures on them, and Chris Martin bouncing around stage like he had one too many Pixie Stix aren't completely and wonderfully magnificent, then I don't know what is.

intro

Hi, friends! My name is Wren. I wrote a poem for you to help you learn about me so I don't have to go through all of that awkward self-explaining that usually accompanies introductary posts. Wanna hear it? No? OKAY, here it goes.

My name is Wren.
My kitchen is decorated with hens.
It's true, I'm a cakeivore.
And a fashionivore.
Photography is cool.
I've spent ten summers of my life in a swimming pool.
I'm a master in the art of procrastination.
I read books with avid fascination.
Floral prints and patent leather shoes are my kind of thing.
I also daily dance and sing.
I love God.
But not cod.
I like oranges.
And I'm sure I'll like you...-anges.

Like it? No? It's the oranges couplet, isn't it? I just know it is. Stupid oranges, not rhyming with anything.

I'm really into photography (although I am very much a rookie) so I thought I'd share my photographs with you all along with some random anecdotes and entertaining tidbits. Photos will come in the next post.

My head is pounding! Blarrrgh. I need sleep. Ah, I remember sleep... It was nice. I should try that again sometime...

Lovely to meet you. ♥
